SAINT JOSEPH THE WORKER PARISH
SINDANGAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE
REV. FR. DELIO L. TALAID
For centuries, Sindangan used to be merely of Dapitan parish since 1645 and then of Katipunan parish since 1876. Finally, it became independent as parish in 1936. Fr. Nicasio Patangan was its first pastor. Among those who succeeded him in the following years were Fr. Antonio Hamak, Fr. Pio Saavedra, Fr. Calixto Yamba, Fr. Epifanio Baleares, Fr. Hector del Callar, Fr. Engracio Rivera, Fr. Primitivo Vidallo, Fr. Edito Gamallo, Fr. Martiniano Bangcoy, Fr. Bienvenido Hamoy, Fr. Jesusimo Orosco, Fr. Felino Ragonton, Fr. Luis Lapinid, and Fr. Oswaldo Bacareza, Msgr. Alfredo Ganason, Fr. Wilson Cadano, Msgr. Esteban Gaudicos, Fr. Jeffrey Tagailo, Fr. Cristopher Varquez and Msgr. Beda Belotindos.
Traditionally, the parish gets its support from its mandated organizations. But it is progressive in its orientation. Formation of lay leaders, ministers and catechists as well as the constant renewal of the charismatic groups and other religious organizations goes on. Apostolate geared towards the enhancement of family life and the youth continue. The Diocesan Health Program is also implemented. Importance is also given to the Tribal Filipinos, considering the presence of the Subanens in the area. All these tasks are pursued in view of the parochial goal to establish basic ecclesial communities. With the guidance of its patron, St. Joseph the Worker, and the pastor, Msgr. Beda Belotindos, the dream is indeed becoming a reality.
